March Fishing ReportsUpdated Fishing News: Bass Federation | Bass Insider | Bassmasters | FLW Outdoors Current | July 2005 |June 2005 |May 2005 | April 2005 | March 2005 Fishing Report for Buggs Island: March 26thSaturday the fish had moved away from the pockets and were suspended out off of the points. Caught a small bass on a Rattle Trap and a 3 pounder on a Rapala X-Rap. Matt and I will be concentrating on Chesdin this week. Will have a report up next Monday.....Tight lines.... Brandon Slaughter Fishing Report for Buggs Island: March 25thFishing conditions took a change for the worse this weekend. Highs in the upper 40's with drizzling rain and winds out of the Northwest made for a tough bite. Landed four bass on Friday, again all on Rattle Traps. The fish seemed to be on points or in shallow main lake pockets close to points. Brandon SlaughterFishing Report for Buggs Island: March 20, 2005Bass fishing continues to be good as the fish are still holding on points and shallow pockets. Fished from 7am. to 4pm. on Sunday. All fish were caught on a variety of crankbaits and jerkbaits. Shad Raps continue to be hot as well as Rattle Traps and Minnow baits. Water was pretty clear with water temps from 48 warming to 54 degrees later in the afternoon. Largest bass of the day pushed 6lbs. Pike continue to be aggressive as well, biting just about anything put in front of them. Brandon Slaughter Fishing Report for Lake Orange: March 19, 2005An unusually calm day at Lake Orange produced few bass. A lunker ten pound bass was caught in early morning while trolling in deep water. The fish was hooked on a Rapala 10 to 12 foot diving shad crankbait. However, the Orange High School Anglers did not have as much success. Only one bass was weighed in at a little over 2 pounds. The fish was caught off a marked fish structure on a white grub. A chain pickeral was also caught while trolling. The water is not quite warmed up enough and the fish seem to be offshore in deeper waters such as the marked fish structures. With warmer weather on the way, the water tempature shall rise turning up the action at Orange Lake. John Oliver Fishing Report for Lake Chesdin: March 19, 2005Tough Tournament Day Brandon and I fished the first open tournament of the year on Lake Chesdin on Saturday from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. Slow cold morning and boat ride. Managed two largemouth bass on a YUM dinger rigged with a small barrel swivel with about a 6 inch leader and one pike hooked on a rapala glass fat rap. First largemouth bass was caught around 10:00 am. The fish were caught in 2 to 6 foot of water, we did not have a temperature reading on the water which was probably a mistake as we both believe the water we were fishing was not as warm as the water up the lake. We got to weigh in one fish at 3 pounds 8 ounces and first place was taken with 2 fish weighing around 12 pounds. Hope to have better luck at the next tournament. Matt Oliver Fishing Report for Buggs Island: March 6, 2005Trappin'em Rattle Traps seem to be your best bet right now to load up on a quality largemouth bass as the water slowly starts to warm and the big females are looking to go shallow. With the wind blowing and air temperature around 50 degrees, it really made for a chilly day, and the bites were few and far between, but those that were "trapped" were anywere from 2.5lbs. to 5.5lbs. These fish were caught in 6 to 12 foot of water. Chain Pickerel are also aggressive, hitting a variety of shad raps and rattle traps. Brandon Slaughter
