May 2005 Fishing Reports from around VirginiaUpdated Fishing News: Bass Federation | Bass Insider | Bassmasters | FLW Outdoors Current | July 2005 |June 2005 |May 2005 | April 2005 | March 2005 Fishing Report for Lake Chesdin: June 27, 2005Dad and I went to Chesdin yesterday afternoon for a "father son tournament", or more or less bragging rights as to who is the better fisherman. We fished the lower end of the lake from 5pm. til 9pm. In the end, youth would prevail over experience as I managed to catch 5 bass and yet another catfish. Only one solid keeper bass though, maybe 2lbs. All bass were caught on topwater close to grass lines. The catfish took another crankbait. Dad didn't catch anything, but we enjoyed the afternoon together anyways. Till next time.....tight lines...... Brandon Slaughter Fishing Report for Lake Chesdin: June 25, 2005Brandon and I fished open tournament on Chesdin. We came up short after a long day. Fished topwater early and Brandon managed a bass that was 1/4 inches below the minimum length on the third cast. The only other fish in the boat was a channel catfish that hit a crankbait. We fished cranks, carolina, and texas rigs but could not get on the fish. The winning weight was a little over 20 lbs. so there are fish out there... Matt Fishing Report for Lake Chesin: June 21, 2005Fished Chesdin on the longest day of the year and got ran off by a thunderstorm. Bass were not bitting but everything else in the lake seemed to be hungry. Brandon caught a whiting and a nice channel catfish on a crankbait. I caught a perch on a 4 inch worm. We fished main points but with little success. Will be back out to the lake again thursday and fishing a tournament on saturday. Hopefully, we will get on some fish... Fishing Report for James River: June 18, 2005Not a great day, but not a bad day either. Finished 30th in the Region tournament over the weekend. Caught 4 fish and broke off number 5, which could have possibly put me in the money. All fish again were caught on 4 inch ringworms in mocassin blue and also caught 1 on a firetiger bandit 100 series crankbait. Winning weight was over 17lbs.!! Definately the class of the field. Will be pre-fishing Chesdin this week in preperation for the open tournament Saturday. Reports to come....Tight lines. Brandon Slaughter Fishing Report for James River: June 15, 2005Fished the James River yesterday afternoon with minimal success. Tide was dead low when I got there and it was very hot. Fished places from Osbourne Landing down to the Appomattox in Hopewell. Did however manage to catch 5 keeper fish throughout the course of the afternoon til' high tide. fish are starting to take cranks and are still chomping plastics. Brandon Slaughter Fishing Report for Lake Chesdin: June 11, 2005Fished Chesdin from 10 to 1 and managed one bass. Fished a crankbait and carolina rig. Many fish were spotted on the depth finder but they were all suspended and we could not get them to bit. Weather was hot, water was warm and clear. Many boats out on the water and too many at the boat ramp. Until next time.... Fishing Report for Appomattox River: June 10, 2005Hot......Very hot afternoon on the river. Fished the afternoon high tide, and did well. Caught four keepers and two under fish. Finesse worms fished wacky seem to be the way to catch fish right now. One fish pushed 5lbs. and was the largest fish I have ever caught in the river. I'll have pics over to Matt this evening. Little rumor flying around that the Chick is hot right now and folks waiting out the locks are having nice catches. Federation Region Tournament this Saturday. Report for you then. Tights lines.....
