First Bow Kill of ’07 Season
Well the first day of the '07 bow season turned out to be a hot one! Temps in the high 80's does little for me in the way of sitting in a tree. However, opening morning I had the opportunity to take a small doe. I saw 8 doe during the morning hunt and this one was the best shot opportunity. Folks think that you need to pass on your fawn deer, but with the population density that we have on our hunting grounds, we need to take as many does as we can to keep our buck to doe ratio in check. Not to mention, they are tender and tasty!! Hopefully this weekend with cooling temps we will have another successful hunt. String Music!
Tuna Fishing
It has been a while since I posted anything on the blog. I wanted to post the tuna fishing trip John, Brandon, and I went on with Jordan West. Jordan is the captain of the West Wind and he runs his own charter service called West Wind Charters out of Chincoteague Island. Mostly he provides Chincoteague boat charters that are for sight seeing or inshore fishing but we talked him into going offshore. We all went to college together and this was the first time we all could make it to the island at the same time.
The trip did not start out so good as we got 10 miles offshore headed for 30 miles Jordan remembers that we left the gaf in the back of my truck that morning. Well as luck turns out 10 minutes after we arrived at our first fishing spot we hook into a large tuna. John is up and fights this tuna for about 30 minutes until he gets it to the boat, Jordan then lets us know that he is going to grab this tuna by the tail and pull it into his boat (21 or 22 foot Sea Hunt). Brandon and I just kinda look at each other like yeah right. Well after another 15 minutes or so of fighting the tuna right at the boat Jordan reached down and somehow pulls this thing out of the water by its tail, we then through a t-shirt over the fish's eyes to try to keep it calm. This was one of the craziest things I have ever seen while out on the water. Here are some of the pics. The first on is when Jordan was getting ready to reach in and grab the 150 to 160 pound tuna by the tail.

Bassmasters Classic 2008
The 2008 Bassmaster Classic will be held on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina. This is just up the road from John and I believe part of BVHC will be headed down there to watch the event. The 2008 Bassmaster Classic marks just the second time that fishing's most prestigious championship has been held in South Carolina.
Lake Hartwell was impounded in 1961, the 55,950-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) reservoir bears the name of a nearby Georgia town which was named for Revolutionary War heroine Nancy Hart. The lake provides hydroelectric power, flood control and recreation, including bass fishing.
I am hoping that we will take at least one boat and be able to get some video footage out on the water for everyone.

Brook Valley Hunt Club Spring Turkeys
More spring gobblers. BVHC does it again. Three birds in two days. This brings us to a 90% kill rate. John and Brandon had a great couple of days out at the huntin camp. More pictures of the birds are posted on the Hunting Photo Gallery.
