Bill Dance Fishing Bloppers

Filed under: Fishing — matt @ 9:03 am

I believe I might be able to sit down and have a few beers with ol' Bill.  He is hillarious in some of these videos.

Lake Chesdin 4/21/07

Filed under: Fishing Reports — matt @ 4:58 pm

I went out and fished Chesdin on Saturday. I wanted to give the river one more day to calm down and I thought that maybe Chesdin would be heated up with fish. When I got to the marina the Fishers of Men tournament was just getting under way, the fog was bad so they pushed the start back about 30 minutes or so. Click here for their results. I fished from 7:00 or so till 12:30. Early I broke off a big fish on a Strike King Pure Poison. I only got one more bit the rest of the morning. I heard that the fish started getting really active late afternoon which is what I figured. It was colder than I thought on Friday night so they probably needed the day to get heated up.

John Simon’s Spring Turkey

Filed under: Hunting — matt @ 5:19 pm

I just received photos of John's spring gobbler.  I posted both pics on the Virginia Hunting Gallery page.  Here is one of the pictures and I will try to post the story later this week.

Spring Turkey Season

Filed under: Hunting — matt @ 3:48 pm

Brook Valley Hunt Club scored two birds this past weekend.  Both Brandon and I got a bird.  Brandon took his bird at 7:10 in the morning, after a brief run he got setup and had 5 or 6 birds come in.  He said that he shot the middle one out of three gobblers (the big one got by him).  For my first spring turkey hunt I went out with John and we scored on a small bird.  I will have to brag that my shot was close to the 50 – 55 yard range (lucky).  Photos below and more will be posted on our Hunting Virginia Photo Gallery.

Roanoke River Fishing Report 4/4

Filed under: Fishing Reports — brandon @ 10:01 am

I had a good evening last Wednesday fishing the Roanoke River for largemouth.  Clyde and I fished from 5pm to 8pm and caught 14 bass, the largest one being the one Budda posted the pic of last week.  I did not have a scale with me, but I am guessing 8.5lbs. or more.  I have a 7.75lbs. mounted and the fish I caught the other night was way bigger than that one.  We caught several more that were close to 5lbs. and the rest of the fish were 2 to 3 lbs.  The Rock fish are not to Weldon yet, but when the bass fishing is as good as it is in this river, I can wait on the Rocks!!

Roanoke River Fishing Report 4/11

Filed under: Fishing Reports — brandon @ 10:01 am

A cold front and wind made for a chilly afternoon of fishing yesterday.  However, Clyde and I managed to catch 15 bass, the largest one being a 6.5 lbs. I caught on a worm.  We had a scale this time and could weight the fish.  I am going to send a pic to Budda to post, and you will notice that this fish is quite a bit smaller than the one I caught last Wednesday.  All fish were caught on worms.  The Rock Fish are still not here and folks are getting concerned because there are only 18 days left in the season.  With the bass bite being as good as it is, I can wait and catch the Rocks up in the lake!!

Garmin 440s GPSMAP

Filed under: Fishing — matt @ 9:02 pm

I have been calling Grean Top Sporting Goods almost on a daily basis waiting for the new Garmin GPSMAPs to get there.  Yesterday, Steve in electronics gave me a call to let me know they were in and he put one on hold for me.  I went right after work to pick it up.  I got a Garmin 440s GPSMAP.  After reading through some of the instructions I am going to try to install it Friday and then hit the water this weekend.  From the one they had setup at Green Top it looks like these are the best bang for the buck.

It might not be in Virginia but it is close enough.  I will let Brandon post the report but I had to post a picture.  See more pictures in the fishing gallery.
